Teacher tips for this prompt

This is a formal letter: end with "Yours faithfully". Give specific details: flight number, date, colour and size of the suitcase. Be firm but polite in the final paragraph.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to report that my suitcase did not arrive after my flight from Dhaka to Toronto on 12 September, and to request your urgent help in locating it.

I travelled on flight IT 482, which departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11.45 pm and connected in Doha. Although I checked in two bags in Dhaka, only one appeared on the baggage belt in Toronto. I reported the problem at your desk and was given the reference number TOR-55821.

The missing case is a large, dark blue hard-shell suitcase with a red ribbon tied to the handle. It contains most of my clothes, a laptop charger and, most importantly, the original copies of my university certificates, which I need for my enrolment next week.

I would be grateful if you could trace the suitcase as soon as possible and deliver it to my address in Toronto. If it cannot be found within five days, I would like to be compensated for the cost of replacing the essential items.

I look forward to your prompt reply.

Yours faithfully, Rafiul Islam
